Ever wondered what the rave about menstrual cups was all about? Well I'm about to share my experience with one of my favourite menstrual cups with you. 2019 has been quite an eye opener for me. I'm so glad I finally got to know about these little period game changers and in this post, I will be reviewing the Organicup, Organiwash and Organiwipes range.

THE #NEW PERIOD
OrganiCup are on a journey to change the way periods affect the lives of young girls, women and our environment. There should be no shame, taboo or barriers around menstruation - since it is a natural process for females to go through monthly and periods should not be the cause of major pollution either. Based on research on the environmental impact of periods it is found that; An individual uses 11,000 disposable period products in a lifetime. That's a whole lot of waste in one lifetime. 500 yrs is how long it can take for pads and tampons to degrade. Whilst 4.6M disposable period products are flushed down the toilet every day in the UK alone. Unlike disposable period products, the OrganiCup is reusable for years and it has a minimal impact on the environment compared to tampons and pads.

WHY I LOVE USING MY ORGANICUP
- I love that they are reusable. If I can reuse most things in my life, then its pretty much high time I reused my period products
- It is very sustainable. Using a menstrual cup reduces waste which helps the environment
- It is very cost effective in the long run. You only need to invest a little to buy the cup at first, but in the long run, it saves you money
- Tampons may contain toxins, but menstrual cups do not contains any harsh chemicals or toxins. I've not tried a tampon and I am glad I don't have to, since I've got my menstrual cup.
- It is discreet and can be used anywhere without having to be ashamed of being on your period
- it is easy to clean and store away
- it can be used for up to 12 hours and on my lightest period days, I only need to change twice a day
- I love the recycled paper packaging and organic cotton bag
- I love the OrganiWash used in washing my OrganiCup and the OrganiWipes (used when I'm out and about in a public toilet and have no immediate access to tap water
- I love the firmness of the OrganiCup. It is beginner friendly and easy to insert for maximum protection

MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR WITH THE ORGANICUP

I have a high cervix and the height and firmness of the OrganiCup is just perfect for me. Its not too tall and not too short. I also have a low-heavy-low flow, so I found the size of the cup to be perfect for my lowest to heaviest days. I have the size B cup which is made for women who have given birth vaginally.
The firmness of the cup is another thing I like about the OrganiCup. It is quite firm yet soft for easy and pain free use. It is easy to pop open when inserted which makes me feel rest assured and comfortable that I won't experience any leaks during my period. The Organicup is also easy to sterilise, simply by putting it in boiling water for 5-8 minutes.
I also like the eco-friendly packaging and how detailed the box is in terms of instructions on how to use the Organicup. I found the OrganiWash really useful each time I wash my cup for storage and I always have the OrganiWipes in my handbag for easy wiping of the cup when I'm out and about and need to use public toilets with no immediate access to water to rinse the cup before insertion.
I really don't have any bad word to say about the OrganiCup because it is a brilliant cup and it does what it says it does, so I would highly recommend it to first timers or anyone who is in search of a better period cup. I like that the cup has a stem for easy insertion and removal. (Don’t worry, you can‘t get your cup lost inside you. The stem is there to help you pull it out.) I even cut my stem for comfort and I was able to remove my cup simply by pushing down the muscles of my vagina (same muscles you use in giving birth.)

It can definitely take some practice to get used to a menstrual cup. I got a hang of it after quite a few tries with other period cups and so inserting and removing the OrganiCup was a breeze to me. You might find it quite tricky at first, but with a few tries you will get used to it. To insert the cup, I simply fold it using the push-down method, but there's the C-fold method that you can try. After insertion, I put a finger round the corners of the cup to be sure it has popped open, that way I know I am well protected from any leaks.
Overall, I have had a great experience with my OrganiCup. I would highly recommend the OrganiCup to anyone who wants to switch from other period cups or to first timers. The OrganiCup is the perfect cup to use for a green period.
