Hey lovelies, hope you are all doing well and the winter bug hasn't hit you yet? Well it has hit us hard over here especially due to the weather transition and having Nina back at school. She‘s picked up a cough and cold, and passed it on to her little brother. It's been one runny nose and cough to the other.

To help stay on top of the dreaded cold and flu, it’s important to stock up ur medicine cabinet with some winter essentials. I’ve got a list of my handy, kids medicine essentials:

1. Calpol

2. Co-op Cough syrup

3. Vicks Vaporub

4. Snuffle babe

5. Abidec multivitamins

TIPS TO HELP FIGHT OFF THE COLD AND FLU BUG:

1. Stay hydrated - lots of water and liquid food like soups for example, are very important at this stage. Encourage your little one to drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

2. Clear out blocked noses - try out saline sprays for blocked noses. They work so well to help your kid breathe easier. For runny nose, I like to apply Vicks VapoRub or Snuffle Babe on my kids chest during the day and I rub it under their feet then wear their socks at night whilst they sleep. This helps them relieve so much tension on their nose and breathe easier when they sleep.

3. Reduce coughs - you know that irritating cough that just wouldn't go away. That cough that can last for 10 mins non-stop. You know this right? If it troubles your little one at night, use a cough syrup to offer soothing relief from chesty congestion. Allow your little one to sleep as much as possible so they can rest as well as boost their immunity

4. Practice good hygiene - school age kids can often forget to wash their hands at school. Encourage them to wash their hands very often at school and at home. Remind them to make it a habit In order to reduce the spread of cold and flu germs. Be sure to have lots of wipes and handkerchiefs on hand to wipe runny noses. Also remember to look after yourself and practice what you preach. The little ones are watching, haha!

5. Stock up on the right foods - it's so important to build up a strong immune system during these cold months. Stock up on fruits and veggies to keep your vitamins and minerals levels up. You can also grab a bottle or two of multivitamins. I like to use Abidec multivitamins for my kids, but there are so many good brands out there to try. Also try out some probiotic rich foods/snacks for meal times e.g yoghurt.

The brands listed above work very well on my kids and I see results within a few days of using them. I’m sure you may have tried them too. Let me know in the comments what you think about these brands. Do they work for you? What other brands have you tried for colds and flu? If you’d like to try any of my recommended products, visit your local pharmacy to grab some. Stay safe and healthy this cold season.

Love,

Ezinma.
